Tell us about your book(s)!
I usually write Regency romances: I just love the excitement and elegance of the era. It’s the perfect setting for love stories. I enjoy creating fun, strong heroines, who find the love they deserve without losing any of their fire, and the kind of heroes who just sweep you off your feet: dashing but human. I also always try to throw in some witty banter, along with a dash of mystery and adventure, to spice up the story.
My latest book, The Scoundrel’s Secret Siren (out October 2013), is all about learning to trust, taking a chance on love and discovering yourself along the way. It all starts when the heroine, Miss Lorelei Lindon, sneaks out in search of ghosts and finds rather more than she’d bargained for!
Any tips on how to get through the dreaded writer’s block?
Researching something completely unrelated, or going for a long walk, usually works for me – it gets my mind off the writing and lets my imagination work in the background. Another great trick is to leave off writing on an exciting note so that you can get right back into it the next day!
What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews?
I think everyone is allowed their say and while good reviews are marvellous, not everyone will like a particular book or author, so bad reviews are par for the course. There are so many different people out there, with different ideas and tastes! I think writers who avoid reading them altogether have a point – though sometimes you can also learn about your readership from what they have to say about your work.

How do you relax?
I like to curl up with a glass of wine, a cat, a book and some music – to which I often sing along! I also enjoy having friends to visit or popping out for a coffee and chat.
What is your favorite motivational phrase?
“Life resembles a novel more often than novels resemble life.” George Sand said that, and I find it absolutely delightful!
What is your favorite book?
Diana Wynne Jones, The Fire and Hemlock – it’s the one I keep coming back to, though there are many others I love.
Who is your favorite author?
This is a tough one. There are many! Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, Diana Wynne Jones, Patricia McKillip and Terry Pratchett come to mind – and I’m sure I’ll think of more after the fact!
What is your favorite movie?
The Philadelphia Story: I’ve seen it more times than I can count – it has a perfect mix of romance and humour.
Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?
Richard III – I’m a bit of a Ricardian. His story has always fascinated me, and to meet him would be a great way to solve the mystery once and for all!
What is the most interesting trip you have ever taken?
A road trip to Durban with my best friend. We got lost on the way there (while singing along to endless musicals), saw a lagoon open, walked for three hours along the beach and almost had a murder mystery to solve – but thankfully not.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
At a classical singing workshop – when I accidentally brought the wrong music and decided to wing it, with disastrous results. It’s funny now, but at the time I was just mortified.
