My recent release is Lady Hathaway’s Indecent Proposal. It is a novella and is the first in the Hathaway Heirs series. This book is steamier than my more traditional books in the Landing a Lord series and as such it was a lot of fun to write.
Andrew and Miranda have a history. They were in love when they were much younger, but Miranda’s parents made a match for her with the older, and wealthier, Viscount Hathaway. Newly widowed when the story opens, Miranda hatches a crazy plan that she hopes will allow her to find a few moments of happiness with the man she never stopped loving. But to get him to agree to her plan, she must first lie to him.
Originally this was supposed to be a standalone story, but the new heir to the Hathaway title makes a brief appearance and he stole my heart. I can’t wait to get started writing his book (right after I finish the next book in my Landing a Lord series.)
Any tips on how to get through the dreaded writer’s block?
I find that when I’m truly stuck, going back to pen and paper usually helps me work through the writing block. Going for a walk also helps.
What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews?
I think all reviews are a necessary part of the writing process. Once a book has been released, it ceases to belong to just the author. Readers will have opinions about that book—often strong ones—and they have the right to share that opinion. Not everyone will love your book and that’s okay.
Reading, of course. I also watch far too much t.v.
What is your favorite motivational phrase?
Fake it ’til you make it!
We all have our insecurities, and for a surprising number of writers it’s the fear that our writing isn’t very good. That we’re fooling ourselves by thinking we can actually write a book. You’d think that feeling would go away once you’ve published, especially if you receive positive feedback from your readers. It doesn’t, though. Not really. For the most part I am confident about my writing, but occasionally I’ll slip into those negative thoughts. When I do, I remember that phrase and hang on to the fact that those down periods won’t last forever. (Fortunately, they usually come only once a month. ;) )
What is your favorite book?
Persuasion, Jane Austen
Favorite Romance – Dreaming of You, Lisa Kleypas. Derek Craven and Sara Fielding are two of my all-time favorite couples.
Who is your favorite author?
Honestly, I can’t pick one favorite author. There are so many great authors and amazing books out there.
What is your favorite movie?
My recent favorite is Jane Eyre—the version with Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender because, well, Michael Fassbender! Do I need to say more?
Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?
It would be very cool to meet Leonard Nimoy. I’ve been a lifelong Star Trek fan—my brother and I even went to L.A. in 1991 for the Star Trek 25th anniversary convention.
What is the most interesting trip you have ever taken?
When I was much younger my family travelled to the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores a number of times. Of course, everything there is modernized now, but at the time it was like stepping back in time—especially since my grandmother’s house still had an outhouse! I’m a city girl through and through, but I loved those glimpses into old world country life.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
Doing an oral presentation while in university and having the professor tell me to start over because I was talking too quickly. After that, as well as being nervous, I was also mortified! (But I did eventually get over my fear of public speaking.)
