A year ago, my husband and I had the privilege of attending the Viennese Opera Ball in NYC. Well, we didn't just attend, I guess...I wrote the script for the opera performance and my husband performed in said performance :) Since it was something we had always wanted to attend, we were excited and honored to have this opportunity.
At any rate, we checked into the hotel -- that's the lobby you see here on your left. The hotel is old and opulent -- truly stunning -- and for someone who loves history, it's very fun to walk the halls and think of all those who have walked them before me...

This room is where the pre-party took place, complete with gorgeous chandelier and roaring fireplace -- I very easily could have been in one of my historical romance novels. Having handsome men in uniform didn't hurt the vision at all...
Then it was time to go to the *real* party. Ahem! Ball. Can you imagine waltzing the night away here? Thankfully, I don't have to...my husband is an excellent waltzer ;)
They even have a debutante's waltz, featuring all of NYC's high society girls (and boys).
And just for fun, Eric and I did our best romance novel photo shoot in our room. Sexy, right??
The Waldorf Astoria is a truly lovely hotel that I'm glad I had the opportunity to stay in. You can expect world class service, but don't expect any warmth here from the staff. The personalities tend to run more towards Thomas than Carson (for those who watch Downton Abbey) Still, it was a great time, and the ball was something I will never forget!
