Tell us about your book!
I have one book out. His Perfect Bride is a historical romance set primarily in London. The second of the series, His Perfect Game, will be released in December, and I’m currently writing, His Perfect Lady, at the moment.
The Perfect Series is a set of three books about three gentlemen who have been friends for years. Each man is very different from his friends, and I love how their varied personalities mesh together.
His Perfect Bride features Richard who is responsible and level-headed. At the beginning of the story, he’s decided to search for a bride. As is true of most men of that time period, he wants a calm obedient wife to see to household matters. Brianna, on the other hand, is nothing like a typical lady of that time. She is wild and impetuous. Through unlikely circumstance, the two meet. Then they must decide what they want more: each other or the perfect match they envisioned for themselves.
Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
Bradley Cooper for Richard. Although his personality doesn’t match the character, he’s hot, so no one will care. Then, for Brianna, I’d like to see Debby Ryan. She’s fun, spunky, and would do justice to the character.
Any tips on how to get through the dreaded writer’s block?
That’s a good one. I will set my manuscript aside for a few days while I think about the possible directions I could take the story. Then I will force myself to sit down and write something. Usually that part undergoes serious rewrites later, but it gets me going on the story and past the rough time.
What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews?
I have mixed feelings about reviews. Although nothing makes me happier than to learn that someone has enjoyed my book, the bad reviews hurt. I read them and try to take the criticism so I will not encounter similar situations with my other books, but it’s never easy. When all is said and done, I do like hearing how people honestly feel about my book.
How do you relax?
Reading. I love to read. It’s what began my love of writing in the first place. Anytime I’m not in the middle of a project, or playing with my three kids, I pull my Kindle out and get lost in that world.
What is your favorite motivational phrase?
‘If there’s a will. There’s a way.’ Too often we classify things as impossible, but eventually we discover the impossible is possible. If you really want something, you can make it happen.
What is your favorite book?
Captain Jack’s Woman by Stephanie Laurens. I’m secretly in love with Captain Jack.
Who is your favorite author?
I have many authors that I adore and purchase all their books, but I’d have to say Christina Dodd ranks number one.
What is your favorite movie?
The Hangover. Bradley Cooper again. :-)
Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?
Queen Elizabeth II. To hear all the stories she could tell would be fascinating. And to get a personal tour of Buckingham Palace would add icing to the cake.
What is the most interesting trip you have ever taken?
To Cancun, Mexico. I know a little Spanish, but not enough. When we visited the market, we were approached by many different vendors encouraging us to purchase their wares. In Texas, the only time you can haggle over the price is to purchase a car, so it felt very strange that they would lower their prices to accommodate me.
Lighting Round:
White wine or red? White
Coffee or tea? Coffee
Cook dinner or order take-out/delivery? Although I’m trying to cook more for my family, I prefer the easy take-out or delivery.
Vanilla or chocolate ice-cream? Vanilla
Pancakes or eggs? Pancakes
Sleep in or get up early? I wish I could sleep in. I have young children, so I must rise early.
Laptop or desktop for writing? I’m a pen and paper kind of girl. After I finish handwriting a scene or chapter, I type it. I use both a laptop and a desktop depending where I am. However, I prefer the desktop.
